who?

Grey Burbridge

In today’s competitive market freelancers need to be more than just knowledgeable, more than just available, they need to be flexible, adaptable – willing to go that little bit further. Freelancers should be the first to know that a deadline is not a moving target, it is there for a reason. Freelancers should be an extension of the company not just another body operating an OS. They should be a complement to the staff not competition and above all nothing should be too much trouble. No longer can good operators rely on their knowledge and skills alone, they need to be amenable and personable. To be able to have a good relationship with the staff and other freelancers no matter what the deadline after all we are there to take pressure away not add to it. Just because you are good, the industry doesn’t owe you a living. Customers pay a premium for a good freelancer, that person should be going the extra mile.

With that in mind, I am a Creative Artworker with extensive experience throughout the industry. Professionalism and attention to detail have been my main attributes, by adding reprographic and print knowledge to the mix I am now a formidable Mac Operator. After 10 years employment I became freelance and set up an office at home. Companies I worked with not only varied in size and client base‚ but also diversity of work genre; ad agencies‚ media design‚ retail packaging, repro houses and printers. Freelance has been my main stay of income through my working career, thus I am a very professional, polite, willing operator. Small enough to care yet experienced enough to cope. When clients comment that I’m “a pleasure to have around” and that they “love my attitude to work”, it underlines why I have been so busy with my freelance work.

From the age of 14 this was my chosen career and I have successfully worked within and for many high street names. Companies worked with not only varied in size and client base‚ but also diversified in work genre; ad agencies‚ media design‚ retail packaging and repro houses. I then set up my own London based business directly servicing Lidl GmbH, M&S, Kinnerton and Lloyds Banking Group. Realising in 2008 that the national climate was changing I rapidly took the company from a small Lidl GmbH servicing business to a multi-cliented consultancy. Moving from design based to a full-service studio we moved into reprographics to increase turnover and progressed eventually to include print management. We also expanded into report & accounts and web design & hosting. As in any SME my role was expanded from design / artwork to legal researcher and everything in between. (Employing staff, leasing offices, contracts, suppliers, clients, logistics, accountancy, VAT etc).

why me?

In summary; professional creative artwork, accurate Report and Accounts, digital and conventional mock-ups, interactive PDFs and GIF work, image file adaption and retouching – using the industry standard; Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat. I have a set way of producing files, layering, labelling and colouring to make my work simple to navigate, work through and identify – that said, I can adapt to client preference.

Adapting is key. Learning new software is never a bad idea. As a Creative Artworker I have also added Office 365 abilities where clients request. So, PowerPoint and Word Templates are not an unusual request, obviously the lack of control in these programme makes design more challenging, so only when a client specifically requests have, I obliged.

Then offereing training videos for Powerpoint so that the Templates can be used by staff, is also something I have to offer.

I love my career!
